  1. Put The Kettle On became the first female horse to win the two-mile Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival as Aidan Coleman guided her to victory for trainer Henry de Bromhead. Nubre Negre and Chacun Pour Soi were second and third.

    De Bromhead also saddled the winner of the Baring Bingham Novices' Hurdle, Bob Olinger, another big race won by jockey Rachael Blackmore. Monkfish cruised to victory in the Broadway Novices' Chase for the Paul Townend--Willie Mullins jockey-trainer combination.

  2. Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore made history as the first female to ride the winner of one of the most prestigious events in British horse racing, the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, with victory on Honeysuckle for trainer Henry de Bromhead.

    Last year's runner-up Sharjah was second again, with the 2020 champion, Epatante, in third.

    Elsewhere on day one of the Festival, Appreciate It and Shishkin both looked like future senior champions in winning the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and Arkle Trophy respectively and Black Tears triumphed in the Mares' Hurdle.
