English-trained filly Kalpana won one of Europe's great horse races, the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Ascot, England in a thrilling finish. 
The Adam Balding-handled winner, piloted by Irish jockey Colin Keane, beat last year's victor, France-based Calandagan, by one-and-a-half lengths with Irish challenger Benvenuto Cellini half-a-length further back in third.

European champions Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the final in New Jersey, USA to win the FIFA Men's World Cup for a second time, 16 years after their previous triumph in 2010.
The match was 0-0 at the end of normal time but Ferran Torres scored the winner durinhg extra time, in the 106th minute.
Defending champions Argentina had midfielder Enzo Fernandez sent off for two yellow card offences just before the game went into extra time.
