  1. France's Fiona Ferro beat Estonian Anett Kontaveit in straight sets (6-2, 7-5) to win the first WTA event in five months in Palermo, Sicily.

    The tournament was the first official event for either men or women held since the season was suspended in March because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

    It is Ferro's second WTA Tour win after her Swiss Open triumph in 2019.

  2. American Justin Thomas moved to number one on the world rankings for the first time since 2018 after winning the WGC Invitational in Memphis, USA.

    Thomas won by three shots from fellow countrymen Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson and Daniel Berger, plus England'sTom Lewis.

    It was his 13th PGA Tour title. He won the US PGA in 2017, his only major title to date.
