  1. Irish-trained Poetic Flare won the St James's Palace Stakes on day one of the Royal Ascot race meeting for handler Jim Bolger and jockey Kevin Manning to follow up their success in last month's 2,000 Guineas. The runner-up was Lucky Vega, with Battleground in third.

    Last year's SJP winner Palace Pier triumphed in the Queen Anne Stakes for trainers John & Thady Gosden under jockey Frankie Dettori from Lope Y Fernandez with Sir Busker third.

    In the day's other Group 1 race, jockey 
    Cieren Fallon, son of retired six-time champion Kieren, claimed his first Royal Ascot victory with Oxted, trained by Roger Teal, in the King's Stand Stakes ahead of Arecibo and Extravagant Kid.

  2. Serbia's Novak Djokovic won his 19th Grand Slam tennis title after fighting back from two sets down to beat Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas at Roland Garros, Paris, France..

    The 34-year-old won 6-7 (6-8) 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4. It was his opponent's first Grand Slam final.

    The victory moves Djokovic one major title behind the men's record jointly held by Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Swiss Roger Federer and also keeps him on course to win all four Grand Slams in one year, having lifted the trophy at the Australian Open.
