Horse Racing - Fighting Fifth Hurdle
A race for horses aged four-year-old or older staged each November at Newcastle racecourse in Tyne & Wear, England over a distance of two miles and one furlong (3392 metres). If any horse wins this, the Christmas Hurdle and the Champion Hurdle in the same season it claims the British Triple Crown of Hurdling. The event's title is the nickname of a former section of the Britiosh Army called the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (Newcastle was formerly part of the county of Northumberland). It was originally a handicap, then became Garde 2 and attained Grade 1 status from 2004.
