horse racing - Super Stradivarius does it yet again

Posted on

Champion stayer Stradivarius strode once again into history as he became the first horse to win the Goodwood Cup four times after a thrilling race on the English Sussex Downs.

Jockey Frankie Dettori guided the John Gosden-trained six-year-old at the picturesque course, with a stunning turn of foot in the final stages, coming from fifth to the front. It was Dettori's fifth win in the race, two of them on Stradivarius, matching the record held by five other jockeys in the race's 212-year history. No other horse has won the prize since it became a Group 1 event in 2017.

Last month Dettori, Gosden and Stradivarius won the Gold Cup at Ascot for the third consecutive year, equalling the record number of wins in that great race.
