Horse Racing - Arkle Novice Chase
Held at Leopardstown in Dublin, Ireland, and named after a previous winner of the then Milltown Novices Chase - arguably the greatest chaser in history, Arkle. The race is open to five-year-olds and older. The first 24 runnings were each over a distance of two miles. Two furlongs were added for the renewals from 1980-1991, and another furlong in 1992-94. It was first cut to its present length of two miles and one furlong in 1995, its sole running at Fairyhouse.
The winner normally attempts the `Arkle double` in the Challenge Trophy of the same name at Cheltenham in March.
