Football - English Women's Super League
There was no recognised national championship for Women in England until the creation of the Women's National League Premier Division in 1991/92. From 1994/5 to 2009/10 this was called the Women's Premier League National Division. The Women's Super League began in 2011 with an April to August schedule. From 2017/18 the season reverted to the more conventional European format of September to May. There was no official title decided in the calendar year 2017 due to the transition from a northern hemisphere spring/summer to an autumn-spring schedule.
