Football - Portuguese League Title
The championship of Portugal began in 1934-35 as Campeonato da Liga da Primeira Divisao, In 1938 it was re-named Campeonato Nacional da Primeira Divisao. It took on its current identity of Primeira Liga in 1999. The so-called "Big Three" – Benfica, Porto and Sporting – have, remarkably, won all but two of the titles between them.
