1956 Summer Olympic Games

Melbourne, Australia & Stockholm, Sweden
The 13th Games, the first to be held south of the equator, involved 67 nations and 3184 competitors (2813 men and 371 women). Due to Australia's quarantine laws, the equestrian events were held in Stockholm with 29 nations fielding 158 participants (145 men and 13 women).
