Rugby - The Freedom Cup

First contested in 2004 (the 10th anniversary of South African democracy), the Cup is contested by New Zealand and South Africa, but is only up for grabs during the annual Rugby Championship series. The team not in possession must win more matches that season than the holders. The two nations have been playing each other since 1921. Prior to the Freedom Cup era, the score was 35-26 in New Zealand's favour, with three matches drawn.
