Golf - National Tournament

This event gets its name from its postion in the PGA Tour calendar, on the first weekend of July coinciding with the United States Independence Day celebrations. The venue has traditionally been the Blue Course of the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland - close to the seat of national government in Washington, DC. In 2010 & 2011, it was played at Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania due to work being carried out on Congressional in preparation for the 2011 US Open hosted there. It was held at the Robert Trent Jones course in Gainesville, Virginia in 2015 and at the TPC Potomac in Avenel Farm, Maryland in 2017.
The  National is one of only five tournaments given "invitational" status by the tour, with a reduced field of 120 players (as opposed to most full-field open tournaments with a field of 156 players).
