Football - Coupe de France

The premier knockout competition of men's football in France, which pre-dates the national league title by 15 years, is not just open to all clubs in the mainland but also those in overseas territories. In its inaugural season, 1917/18, and 1918/19 it was known as Coupe Charles Simon, an instigator of organised football in the country who died during World War I.
The tournament was abandoned in 1991/92, after the stadium disaster at Bastia during the semi-final against Marseille saw 18 people lose their lives.
