Cricket - ICC Champions Trophy
The Champions Trophy, cricket's second most important one-day international tournament, was initially designed to be a biennial boost to the finances of emerging cricket nations by taking the sport's top teams to venues outside the full members of the International Cricket Council.
However, the event became a quadennial affair after 2009 and, following the 2000 staging in Kenya, has now been rotated around the major players as bigger stadia means more money for the smaller fry.
The trophy was shared in 2002 after the final was abandoned due to poor weather.
The tournament was not scheduled in 2021.
In 2025, despite the event being officially hosted by Pakistan, the final was held in Dubai, where finalists India played all their matches after refusing to travel to the host nation, citing security reasons in the on-going political tension between the countries.
