Canadian Masters (Ranking Tournament)

The 1980s was the boom time for snooker. Among its major players were the Canadian trio of Cliff Thorburn, Kirk Stevens and Bill Werbeniuk. Their profile helped create an invitation tournament in Toronto but as their fortunes declined so did interest back home and, although it became the first ranking event held outside the UK in 1989, was summarily abandoned. It had just one staging with ranking status.
