Rugby - Centenary Quaich

The annual Six Nations Championship match between Ireland and Scotland is the arena in which this trophy is contested. A quaich is a Celtic drinking vessel.
The prize, which was inaugurated to celebrate the 100th meeting of the ancient rivals in 1989, is not put up for grabs in any matches outside of the Championship between the nations, such as in the World Cup. Before the Quaich came along, the 99 matches saw 45 victories for Ireland to 49 for Scotland. Four matches were drawn and there was one abandonment, at Belfast in 1885. The match is held at Aviva Stadium, Dublin in even years and Murrayfield, Edinburgh in odd years.
*The 1991 World Cup and the 2003 and 2007 World Cup warm-up matches, both held at Murrayfield, did not see the Quaich contested.
~Played at Croke Park, Dublin
